Parents wishing to have a child baptized or those wishing to be baptized themselves are invited to contact the church office to arrange a meeting with the pastor of the congregation.
Parents need not be members of the congregation in order to have their children baptized at St. Mark’s. Persons baptized by our pastor, though, are automatically placed on the St. Mark’s roster as a baptized member.
Baptisms normally take place as part of our regular Sunday morning worship service. We follow this practice as it is a sign that in baptism we are made one with Christ and with the whole people of God. Under exceptional circumstances, an alternate time may be arranged.
When a child is presented for Holy Baptism, the parent(s) and sponsor(s) are asked to make a public profession of their faith using the words of the Apostles’ Creed. They also make a promise to help their child or children grow in the Christian faith and life by bringing them to the word of God and the holy supper, teaching them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed and the Ten Commandments, place in their hands the holy scriptures and to nurture them in faith and prayer so that their child or children may learn to trust God, proclaim Christ through word and deed, care for others and world God made, and work for justice and peace.
